This is an illustration of my favourite character in the show, Hazbin Hotel by Vivienne Medrano. I wanted to experiment with drawing a stylised character in a pose from a photo reference of the human body. This was a test to see if I could look at a realistic pose and change the proportions to fit a cartoon style. I’ve spent a lot of time working on the sketch for this image as I think having the right foundation helps to make a good illustration. The perspective of the shoulders has been particularly difficult, so I have spent hours trying to get it just right. This is why I’ve broken the torso down into 3D shapes in the top right corner. For some pieces, I know that it is more important to just get it done rather than spend too much time focusing on perfecting small details no one else will notice. However, as this is my favourite character and I will likely make this into a sticker for myself I want to take my time to get it just right.
