As I was studying the traditional elements of nature in my A Level Photography investigation, I tried taking some long exposure photos of smoke coming from a flame. I then uploaded these images into Photoshop and experimented with using gradient maps to colour them. My aim was to colour the smoke in a way that made it appear as fire, linking to one of the themes in my project which was making elements of nature appear as something different. I did something similar when I photographed splashes in waves during a sunset, making the sprays of water appear more as fiery sparks.
