Cyanotypes (2022)

When trying different physical processes of photography such as the boiled book method, I also took inspiration from Anna Atkins to create botanical cyanotypes. Atkins was a Victorian photographer and botanist who recorded her specimens in the form of cyanotypes, a chemical process that uses UV light from the sun to make a dark blue colour. I was doing a study on plants and nature for my A Level Photography project and thought that the cyanotype process was a good method to incorporate nature into my photography as the images are made with the sun. I think the key to a good cyanotype is the composition as the main creative element to it is arranging objects to cover the page. I would love to try making cyanotypes of my illustrations by printing them onto acetate and using that to cover the page.
