Here, I was inspired to draw the antagonistic character Neopolitan from the show RWBY. I drew this in 2021, but recently drew over it to add more texture and warmth to the colours. Although she appears sweet and innocent like the ice cream her design was originally based on, I think people have a habit of overlooking the sinister side of her character. I wanted to illustrate both her cutesy disposition as well as her sadistic personality in this artwork. She wears a simple sweet smile with her head innocently tilted slightly, but her eyes lack expression and stare directly at the viewer. I chose to present her like this so that she appears more innocent at first glance, but then becomes more unsettling the more you study her. I communicated her sinister personality more clearly through large knife she has a firm grip on. However, to balance out that threatening symbol, I added an element of dark humour to the piece by having her signature Neapolitan ice cream dripping from the blade instead of blood. I did test drawing blood onto the knife instead, but I thought this made her too threatening. Neopolitan presents herself with grace and femininity, so I didn’t want her nefarious side to overpower that too much.
