I illustrated this painting of a seascape in my watercolour class with Lynne Holehouse. I had never illustrated a seascape before, so I was a little nervous about approaching this task. However, I want to improve my drawings of backgrounds so I found this session very useful for me. We broke the scene into different layers, starting with the sky and then the sea. I had to use masking tape to cover the horizon line so that I could paint the cliffs in the distance. These classes have definitely shown me the importance of masking areas off when painting an illustration with different components and layers.
